Open Gym Classes!

Hello awesome and amazing CrossFit Waterloo Members! We want to update you on some new changes to the gym. We have introduced OPEN GYM times during the week: Tuesday 3:30-5:30pm; Thursday 6:30-8:30pm; and Saturday 12:30-2:30pm. Our first trial of this class is completed and the feedback has been excellent! Our objective in implementing this class is to encourage you to keep working toward your personal goals, build on your strengths, and improve on what you perceive as your weaknesses. In an effort to continue to provide you with the best training facility in Kitchener-Waterloo, we will be continuing with OPEN GYM classes (yay!).

Please make a note that OPEN GYM classes will still require you to sign up for the classes to avoid over-crowding. There will always be a top-notch coach to assist you; the role of the coach will be to watch form and ensure safety of all members present. The difference in the OPEN GYM class and a regular class is that the OPEN CLASS will not have a structured WOD but rather the coaches are there to provide everyone with help and advice.

OPEN GYM is only for members and the purpose of this class is primarily to focus on working on strengths and skills (i.e. mobility, gymnastic movements, Olympic lifts, and overall strength). We understand that for some of you the times you come in are determined by your personal schedule. If you wish to complete the WOD for that day rather than complete specific work, you may do so on your own. Anyone completing a WOD of any kind will time their own WOD or ask the coach to set up the clock and more importantly, assure enough space is available to respect others while engaging in their lifts/skills.

If you are not sure if this class is for you, just try it once! It may be that this class is not suitable for you now, but not necessarily never. In time you may feel more focused on goals and strengths, which will allow you to have a plan of action when you come in. OPEN GYM is for our members who wish to focus on goals that they set or want to accomplish by working on them a little extra each week. Remember we provide 6 days a week of classes for a total of 51 classes in a week to get assistance on your form and WODs and will provide you direction for goals.

If you choose to take part in the OPEN GYM remember to be: respectful of other’s space; keep the equipment that you are using in a tidy manner to ensure safety for others; clean up for yourself when you are done; and …. leave it cleaner then you found it. It is important that you finish your WOD on time to allow for a prompt start time for the next CrossFit class. We hope to see continued growth of this class – come out and give it a try!
