Murph… Anyone?

For those of you that may not know… Murph WOD is definitely my favorite hero wod. It is not my favorite just because it is a mentally and physically tough workout. There is a story behind Michael Murphy aka “Murph”. For those who are not familiar there has been some media coverage in the past, a book written by Marcus Luttrell named “Lone Survivor”, and recently there was a small Indie Film called “Murph the Protector” which was released in March 2013. Unfortunately the small film did not make it past the small screen and it is not out on DVD.

As of today the movie “Lone Survivor” will hit the big screen. This stars Mark Wahlberg and he plays Marcus Luttrell. He was the only survivor that fought along side Michael Murphy. This movie is base off the book Marcus wrote and is not base or about Murph, however it is the entire story of the 4 Navy Seals that fought 150 soldiers.

I am yet to see the movie, but if it is accurate as the story and the book you will learn in the movie how Murph risked his life to try to save his other 3 friends. I won’t spoil the movie if you are unfamiliar with the events, but yes this a true story and very touching story. Put all emotions of war or patriotic opinions aside for a bit and I encourage you to read up about Murph as you may gain some encouragement next time you in a wod that is just kicking your butt.

What is Murph??? Well it is:

Murph WOD:
1 Mile Run
100 Pull ups
200 Push Ups
300 Squats
1 Mile Run

Sure you can scale the workout and one of the easier ways is to do 10 rounds of 10 Pull ups, 20 Push ups, 30 squats with a buy in/out of a mile run. I personally love and hate to do it as it’s meant to be.

Enjoy the movie if anyone gets out this weekend. I am hoping to make my way out there in the coming week,
